HW 7 - Abstract Coconut
This is a weather station that pulls data from a weather website and displays temperature, humidity, wind speed, and precipitation in 4 different dials. After finishing the project we noticed the combination of plywood and white acrylic makes it look like a coconut - more or less. Therefore we decided to name it Abstract Coconut.
While my project partner focused on the programming aspect, I was in charge of designing the physical structure. Since the programming aspect of this project was relatively simple, we decided to spend a lot of time to create a unique physical model that hosts the weather station.
Using a software called Slicer for Fusion 360, i was able to subdivide a sphere into triangles and generate laser-cutting plans. I then modified the vector files in Illustrator to fit the circuit and motors inside the sphere. Together, we made a paper version in 1:1 ratio as a test before we went for the final version.
Unlike traditional weather displays, we decided not to put any numbers around the knob to show the actual data, as we treat the project to be more like an artistic exploration than a purely functional tool.
